Yoshi and Baby Mario make a comeback in *Yoshi's New Island*, the latest entry in the popular series. The game brings back the franchise's signature gameplay features like Yoshi's Flutter Jump, Ground Pound, and Egg Throw, while introducing a host of exciting new abilities. Yoshi can now unleash powerful attacks using Mega Eggdozers and Metal Eggdozers to smash and manipulate his surroundings. He can also transform into various tools and vehicles, such as a jackhammer or a submarine, with control handled by the Nintendo 3DS' motion sensors. A special star power-up even turns Yoshi into Super Yoshi, allowing him to soar through the air or run upside down on walls and ceilings. If players find a level too tough, they may encounter Flutter Wings, which grant Yoshi the ability to glide through the sky.
Yoshi's New Island begins right after the events of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, where a stork mistakenly delivers Baby Mario and Baby Luigi to a couple in the Mushroom Kingdom, who believe they are the babies' parents. At the start of Yoshi's New Island, it is revealed that the stork made a mistake and the babies were not delivered to their real family. The stork quickly retrieves the infants and takes off to find their true parents, but is attacked mid-flight by Kamek. Kamek captures the stork and Baby Luigi, while Baby Mario falls and is reunited with the Yoshi family on Egg Island, a floating landmass now controlled by Baby Bowser. Baby Mario is able to sense Baby Luigi’s location through telepathy, and the Yoshis agree to help him travel across the island to rescue his brother. When Baby Mario and Yoshi reach Baby Bowser’s fortress, Baby Bowser awakens and jumps on Kamek, who had tried to remove Baby Mario and Yoshi from the castle. As Baby Bowser attempts to ride Yoshi, he is defeated. Kamek then uses a Giant Magical Hammer to transform Baby Bowser into a giant. After defeating the giant Baby Bowser, Yoshi goes on to free the captured stork and rescue Baby Luigi, only to be confronted by Adult Bowser, who arrives by warping through time and space. Yoshi defeats Adult Bowser, and Kamek once again uses the Giant Magical Hammer to enlarge him. After Adult Bowser is defeated, Yoshi returns to the stork and Baby Luigi, and the stork sends Baby Mario and Baby Luigi back to their rightful home. At the end, the moving warp pipe that assisted Yoshi throughout the adventure is revealed to be Adult Mario, who had also traveled through time and space to help ensure Yoshi’s success before returning to his own timeline.
