Yugi and his companions find themselves stuck in a wild virtual reality world. Play as Yugi or Kaiba and assemble a trio of monsters to seize control of towns in two distinct scenarios, engaging in tactical team battles. Issue commands to your squad to complete each mission. In battle, your team can unleash powerful group attacks and combos. More than 175 monsters from the Yu-Gi-Oh! animated TV series are featured in the game—and they’ll all fight to the end to dominate each battlefield.
The Yugi storyline follows Yugi, along with Joey, Tristan Taylor, and Téa Gardner, as they are invited to test the virtual reality game "Kingdom," developed by SIC. Once inside, they quickly realize they're stuck and must rely on the game's characters and creatures to take down the antagonist, Emperor Heishin, and stop the game's creator, Scott Irvine, from seizing control of the three Egyptian God Cards. At one point in Yugi's journey, some of your allies are manipulated and you're forced to battle them. In Kaiba's storyline, Seto Kaiba and his brother Mokuba Kaiba also end up trapped in the game. At first, they serve Emperor Haysheen (Heishin), but Kaiba soon rebels against the Empire. A major turning point in both plots happens when Mokuba is captured, and Scott compels Kaiba to fight Yugi. The conclusion of each storyline takes place in a hidden chamber that connects the game's fantasy world to the inner systems of the computer running it. In this area, each team must face both Scott Irvine and the opposing DarkNite, who controls one of the God Cards (Obelisk the Tormentor in Yugi's story and Slifer the Sky Dragon in Kaiba's). After completing one story, the other becomes more difficult, with stronger enemies—likely because character stats carry over between the two. In this harder mode, a new antagonist named Nitemare appears, wielding the God Card at level 99. Joey's storyline serves as a prequel to Yugi's and includes some supporting characters from the other narratives. The main antagonist here is Marik Ishtar, who wields The Winged Dragon of Ra.
