Akai Katana

Summary

Akai Katana is a side-scrolling bullet-hell shooter created by Cave and launched in Japanese arcades on August 20, 2010. An enhanced Xbox 360 version titled Akai Katana Shin was released in Japan on May 26, 2011, featuring new game modes. Rising Star Games handled the console release in North America and Europe on May 15, 2012, under the title Akai Katana.

Storyline

In a parallel world inspired by Japan's Taisho era, the people have uncovered the formidable Blood Swords. These weapons demand human lives to unlock their devastating strength, and the empire has wielded them to conquer nearby nations. Yet the constant violence and the personal toll of sacrificing loved ones have led some swordsmen to question their cause. Now, armed with advanced fighter planes and enhanced swords, a small group of rebels rises to challenge the oppressive empire.
