Storyline

Set on October 31, 2001, Edward Carnby’s closest friend and partner, Charles Fiske, is discovered dead off the shores of Shadow Island, a remote and enigmatic land near the Massachusetts coastline. Carnby’s inquiry rapidly leads him to Frederick Johnson, who reveals that Fiske had been searching for three ancient tablets said to hold immense and perilous power. Johnson implores Carnby to step into Fiske’s shoes and continue the investigation to locate the tablets. Carnby agrees, vowing to uncover the truth behind Fiske’s murder. Johnson introduces Edward to Aline Cedrac, a brilliant young university professor. She joins Edward in the search for the missing tablets and helps Professor Obed Morton, whom she believes to be her father. As they fly over the coastline of Shadow Island, their plane is suddenly attacked by an unidentified creature. Both Edward and Aline leap from the aircraft and descend via parachute, only to be separated upon landing. Edward touches down in the thick forest just beyond a manor, while Aline lands directly on the manor’s rooftop.
