Summary

Bahamut Lagoon blends RPG elements with team-based combat. Characters have HP, MP (SP for fighters), EXP, gear, stats, and class-specific, SP-consuming elemental abilities, much like classic console RPGs. Players can explore, interact with NPCs, and visit shops during non-combat moments, though the game restricts travel since there's no world map and you can't leave the current area. The heart of the game is its turn-based battles on a 2D grid. Players form parties of four, with a maximum of six parties, often facing overwhelming odds. Each side takes turns, allowing a party to move and/or attack once per turn. Attacks are split into ranged and melee actions. In ranged combat, a party member uses a special ability—like launching fireballs, summoning lightning, or healing allies—from a distance. Each ability has a unique range and area of effect. If two or more characters in a party share the same ability, they can combine their efforts to boost its impact. Ranged attacks yield less damage and gold, but the enemy can't counter. These attacks can also alter the battlefield, such as setting forests on fire, melting ice, or freezing water. In melee combat, units from adjacent parties can act once per turn. Similar to Final Fantasy on the SNES, they can attack, use an item, or cast a special ability (though these are usually limited to single targets and can't be combined), or choose to defend. Dragons serve as the player's key advantage. They have their own stats and gain experience like regular characters. In battle, each party is linked to a dragon, drawing much of their power from it. If a party's dragon is defeated, the party loses the ability to use special and class-specific abilities for the rest of the area. The dragon functions as a powerful, semi-independent unit that acts after the party and can only be given basic commands, such as "Come!" Outside of battle, dragons will eat just about anything, and feeding them is a core gameplay element. Providing them with items can enhance their stats and influence their in-game behavior, and as they grow, they evolve into new forms. Players can freely customize each party's members, formations, and the dragon that represents them.
