Just like its arcade counterpart, *Blueprint* casts you as J.J., who gets three tries to rescue the damsel in distress from a terrifying creature chasing her across the top of the screen. Guide J.J. through a series of houses, each containing either a part of the Rube-Goldberg-style contraption used to fight the monster—its blueprint displayed at the bottom of the screen—or a bomb that needs to be disposed of quickly. Hitting the button makes J.J. run faster, but like many who spent too much time with the Atari 2600, he has a limited amount of "Fast run time," shown by a helpful bar graph. Smaller but still annoying monsters emerge from the bomb pit, trying to activate the machine early and shake it apart. When that happens, you must lure those creatures back into the pit and reassemble the machine. Successfully build the contraption in time, and you can blast the creature chasing your girlfriend. The Atari 2600 version simplifies the visuals significantly (though the most intricate part of the layout—the blueprint—remains largely unchanged) and reduces sound effects to a bare minimum (goodbye to the game's catchy, jazzy tunes). However, there are no control issues, and the final product remains vibrant and a whole lot of fun.
Your girlfriend Daisy is in danger! Ollie Org is chasing her across the top of the screen, and it's up to you to save her. To stop Ollie before time runs out, you must build a machine. The blueprint for the machine is displayed at the bottom of the screen, and your job is to find the missing parts hidden inside the many houses scattered throughout a maze-like town. When you find a part, drag it to the blueprint and place it in the correct spot. Once all the parts are in place, press the start button and the machine will be ready to use! But you'll face several challenges along the way. If you enter a house that doesn't have a part, you'll be given a bomb instead. You must quickly defuse any bombs in the bomb pit before they go off! Occasionally, a flower pot will drop from above and bounce off the screen. If one hits you, you'll lose a life. You also need to watch out for Fuzzy Wuzzy, who roams the neighborhood unpredictably. A run-in with Fuzzy Wuzzy will be fatal! Hiding in the bomb pit is Sneaky Pete; while he won't hurt you, he sometimes sneaks out and presses the start button before your machine is finished. If this happens, you'll have to drag Pete back to the pit and rebuild the machine from scratch.
