College Hoops 2K8 was developed by Visual Concepts and published by 2K Sports. It launched on November 19, 2007, for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation 3. The game's cover star was Greg Oden, who played for the Ohio State Buckeyes. The title included nearly every Division I NCAA basketball program at the time, such as newly added schools like South Carolina-Upstate, Cal State-Bakersfield, and Florida Gulf Coast. Presbyterian College and North Carolina Central, both D-1 independents, were excluded. Additionally, Centenary College from the Summit League was not licensed and instead appeared as UL-Calcutta. Players could alter and customize rosters, and share them online using the new 2K Share feature. The real-life coaches mode was removed, likely due to coaches not renewing their contracts, and all on-screen coaches were left unnamed. The in-game commentary was provided by Verne Lundquist and Bill Raftery. In 2008, the College Hoops series was put on hold when 2K Sports decided not to pursue the college basketball license for a 2K9 version. EA Sports secured the rights before 2K could, allowing EA to continue producing college basketball games. However, EA later ended their own college basketball series in 2010. As of now, it remains uncertain whether 2K Sports will revive the College Hoops 2K series.
