Dariusburst is a side-scrolling shooter developed by Pyramid and published by Taito. It is part of the Darius series and was launched for the PlayStation Portable on December 24, 2009. Similar to earlier titles in the series, Dariusburst is a quirky sci-fi shooter set in space, featuring aquatic-inspired robotic enemies, often shaped like fish. As with past entries, the game includes branching pathways rather than the typical linear progression seen in many games. The game consists of 11 zones, each offering five stages per playthrough. An arcade version titled Dariusburst Another Chronicle was introduced on December 17, 2010, in a 32:9 dual widescreen cabinet. A revised version, Dariusburst Another Chronicle EX, followed in 2011. A remastered version of the original game for iOS and Android, named Dariusburst Second Prologue, was released on February 10, 2012, and October 24, 2015, in the United States. A more advanced edition, Dariusburst Chronicle Saviours, has been announced for PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and Microsoft Windows. The game will be available in Japan through Kadokawa Games under their Chara-Ani publishing label, and internationally by Degica.
Dariusburst is set a hundred years after Darius II, with the planet Darius under constant assault from the Belser Army. The ongoing conflict hints at a potential conclusion to the prolonged warfare, especially with the introduction of the Burst System—a cutting-edge weapon integrated into the latest Silver Hawk fighters. Piloting these advanced machines are Riga Pratica, the test pilot for the Silver Hawk Burst series, and Ti2, an AI housed in the form of a young girl. Working as a team, they push back against the Belser Army, targeting its warships, production facilities, and even the once-occupied fortresses.
