Summary
Fighters Megamix is a 1996 fighting game created by AM2 for the Sega Saturn and Game.com. It brings together characters from various Sega titles, including the full roster from Virtua Fighter 2 and Fighting Vipers, as well as Janet from Virtua Cop 2 and the Hornet car from Daytona USA, allowing players to face bosses directly without needing codes. Highly promoted, it followed Virtua Fighter 2 as a major 3D fighter for the Sega Saturn. Designed as a gateway to Virtua Fighter 3 (which never made it to the Saturn), Fighters Megamix borrowed the concept from The King of Fighters, blending characters and styles from different games. In addition to the open arenas from Virtua Fighter (now without ring-outs), it also features the enclosed cages from Fighting Vipers. Virtua Fighter characters include new moves from VF3, but the standout feature was the dodge mechanic, enabling characters to sidestep attacks and create opportunities for counterattacks. Sega promoted this as the first "true 3D" fighting game on the market. Unlike most of AM2's games at the time, Fighters Megamix never saw an arcade version. A port for the Game.com was released in 1998 by Tiger Electronics.
