Heart of China is an adventure game with a romantic flair, somewhat similar to movies like Raiders of the Lost Ark. The game takes place in the 1930s in China and a few other locations. It features a straightforward point-and-click interface for interacting with objects and characters, and it closely resembles Rise of the Dragon in both visuals and gameplay.
Certain challenges in the game offer multiple solutions, letting players experiment with different tactics and make choices in branching conversations. However, some decisions might result in the hero's demise or stall the investigation. There are also a few arcade-style segments that can be skipped if the player fails them after several attempts. The game combines digitized photos of real actors with hand-painted backgrounds.
