Summary

Kantai Collection is a Japanese free-to-play browser-based game where players focus on assembling squadrons made up of unique characters represented as cards with varying stats. These squadrons are then deployed on various missions. The characters are charming, anthropomorphic representations of World War II naval ships, portrayed as cute girls called "Fleet Girls." Each of these personified ships is inspired by real historical vessels, with their traits, looks, and personalities reflecting their real-life counterparts. For instance, ships with greater displacement are often shown as older, more mature girls, while smaller vessels are depicted as younger and more delicate, with a few exceptions. As the player, you assume the role of an admiral, managing and commanding your fleet in battle to achieve victory. Battles are mostly automated, with player involvement limited to tasks like construction, repair, and other forms of micromanagement.

Storyline

The "shipgirls" are young women who house the spirits of historic naval vessels within their bodies. They are the sole force capable of confronting the "deep-sea dwellers"—hostile ships that have emerged from the ocean depths—and they fight to defend both the people and the sea. Yet, in the face of the overwhelming might of the deep-water fleet, many were either gravely injured or lost, and the war's balance was shifting dangerously. Amid this turmoil, the destroyer "Shigure" was reassigned to a new fleet. The unit she joins is the "First Ranger Unit," specifically its "Third Unit" (1YB3H). However, the fleet is a patchwork of outdated ships, including the rear-deployed battleships "Yamashiro" and "Fusou," the lone aircraft cruiser "Mogami," and four destroyers. Determined to reclaim their strength and make one last stand, Shigure and the members of 1YB3H set out on a perilous mission to the doomed straits, serving as a decoy to shield the main force.
