Summary
Shape Up or Slip Out! is the fifth title in Al Lowe's Leisure Suit Larry series. All prior events are erased, and Larry is once again single, with the same goal of winning the attention of various women. By pure coincidence, Larry ends up on a TV game show called "Stallions," where he wins a weekend stay at the Spa Resort, La Costa Lotta. Naturally, there are several attractive women at the spa who are supposedly longing for a handsome, charming man like Larry. Or are they? It's up to the player to uncover the truth! This entry places a stronger emphasis on dialogue with women and puzzle-solving rather than a deep narrative. The entire game takes place at La Costa Lotta, where players will encounter numerous classic inventory-based puzzles. Larry can meet his demise, but the player can restart from the beginning each time without needing to reload a saved game. It's also the first game in the Larry series to feature SVGA graphics and voice acting in the CD version.
Storyline
Larry Laffer starts the game single once more, as his girlfriend Passionate Patti has been erased from the series through a retcon. After participating — and losing — on the TV dating show *Stallions*, Larry is awarded an all-expenses-paid trip to La Costa Lotta, an upscale wellness retreat. Because he's a non-paying guest, he's met with hostility from the staff and assigned the worst room available. As a result, the women at the resort initially have no interest in Larry, but their opinions can be swayed with the proper gifts.
