Summary
Lumines Electronic Symphony takes advantage of the PlayStation Vita's new features, including the rear touch pad, while retaining the familiar controls from the original Lumines on the front panel. The game now features animated 3D blocks in place of the 2D sprites used before. Players will use the front touch screen to move and rotate blocks, with support for analog sticks and D-pad controls as well. In earlier Lumines games, players earned skins by demonstrating skill in reaching them. Lumines Electronic Symphony introduces an experience point system, where all points earned during a session are converted into XP. As players level up, they unlock new skins and avatars. Each avatar is equipped with a unique ability for both single-player and multiplayer modes. As players progress, they can unlock more avatars and discover abilities that match their preferred playstyle. Q Entertainment partnered with the design firm BUILD—founded by former members of Designers Republic and Psygnosis—to develop much of the game's promotional content, including the new logo, in-game font, and visual elements for the packaging design.
