Mega Man Network Transmission, referred to in Japan as Rockman EXE Transmission (ロックマン エグゼ トランスミッション), is a video game created by Arika and released by Capcom and ShoPro Entertainment for the Nintendo GameCube. It debuted in Japan on March 6, 2003, with launches in North America and PAL territories occurring the next month in June. Network Transmission is a title within the Mega Man Battle Network series, which first launched on the Game Boy Advance (GBA) portable system.
The story of *MegaMan Network Transmission* is set in the early 2000s ("200X"), just one month after the events of the original *MegaMan Battle Network*. After vanquishing the "Life Virus," the ultimate creation of Dr. Wily and the "WWW (World Three)" group, Lan Hikari and his NetNavi, MegaMan.EXE, settle back into a peaceful routine. But Lan's calm is short-lived when he receives an email on his personal information terminal (PET) about a dangerous new computer virus known as the "Zero Virus," which is corrupting Navis and causing chaos. At the same time, Lan gets word that his NetNavi friend, Roll.EXE, is trapped in the internet. MegaMan rushes to rescue her and discovers that the source of the problem is an infected FireMan.EXE. After defeating him, Lan and MegaMan speak with FireMan's operator, Mr. Match, who reveals that the supposed vaccine meant to cure the Zero Virus is actually making things worse, having driven FireMan into a violent frenzy.
