Summary
This game features elements from the Mega Man X series and the Mega Man Zero series. It introduces a new open-ended gameplay style and the option to choose the protagonist's gender, a first for the franchise. The player controls Vent or Aile on a 2D map filled with sprites, battling enemies to complete their mission. When Vent and Aile obtain a Biometal, they can transform, unlocking various abilities such as charge attacks or elemental weapon charges—like electricity from Biometal H. Using form-specific abilities while in a special form drains weapon energy. When Vent and Aile acquire the other half of a Biometal, they gain access to an additional unique special ability.
Storyline
The game is set in a technologically advanced world many centuries after Mega Man Zero 4. Humans and Reploids now live in harmony, both recognized as equals under new laws. Over time, the people of Earth managed to restore some of the old nations. But as prosperity began to return, troubling incidents started to arise worldwide, as certain machine life forms turned Maverick, making some regions unsafe. This growing threat disrupted trade and communication between the nations. As a result, the world split into two zones: the Inner, a safe haven for humans, and the Outer, a dangerous region plagued by Mavericks. Much of the progress in this new era is thanks to Slither Inc., a powerful corporation that has uncovered ancient technology from ruins in the Outlands. The company supplies this advanced tech to the central cities, helping to sustain peace and daily life. In the frontier regions, where national authorities can't yet provide security, attacks by Mavericks—Reploids and Mechaniloids that disrupt peace—continue to cause damage. In response, the local population formed the Guardians, a volunteer-based defense group. They protect the frontier and work to uncover the origins of the Maverick phenomenon. Slither Inc. plays a vital role in city life by using ancient technology to provide essential resources like energy. While the company's control over these resources might raise concerns, for the people in the cities, it's a necessary part of their survival. The president of Slither Inc. is Serpent, a respected figure who built the company from the ground up by exploring the ancient ruins of the Outlands. He also commands a powerful army of Mechaniloids and is known for his past efforts in repelling Maverick threats. Meanwhile, the Guardians are seen as an independent force. Their mobile base, the massive flying ship known as the Guardian Base, serves as their command center. They recruit volunteers to defend the frontier and investigate the roots of the Maverick problem. The original leader of the Guardians vanished during an expedition into the Outlands, and leadership now rests with a young girl named Prair.
