NBA ShootOut (known as Total NBA in the United Kingdom) is a basketball video game series inspired by the NBA and launched for the PlayStation and PlayStation 2. The initial two titles came out in 1996 and 1997. Subsequent games were crafted by 989 Sports, with NBA ShootOut 2000 being the sole title in the series available on Microsoft Windows. In these games, players can select a real NBA team to compete in exhibition or regular season matches, or design their own players to add to team lineups. Charles Barkley and Shaquille O'Neal were absent from the game's roster. In versions from the early 2000s, Michael Jordan appears as part of the Washington Wizards. Earlier editions of the game made it very challenging to perform slam dunks, an issue that was later improved in subsequent releases.
