Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee is set in the imaginative Oddworld universe and follows the events of Abe's Exoddus. The player takes control of both Munch and Abe, the hero from earlier Oddworld titles. Abe's skills remain largely unchanged from the previous game: he still relies on GameSpeak to communicate with other beings and guide them to safety. Now, he can command his fellow Mudokons to attack foes. Abe can also lift and throw Mudokons or Munch to reach areas otherwise inaccessible. Possessing enemies is a key mechanic, essential for solving many of the game's puzzles. This ability can now be used to incite conflicts between enemies, causing them to fight one another. Players can switch seamlessly between Abe and Munch for most of the game. Munch introduces new abilities: he can use his sonar to control or immobilize certain creatures, and he can also swim. Another new feature is the ability to use vending machines, which offer a variety of items that boost the protagonists' skills. At key moments, both Abe and Munch can also take control of mechanical creatures remotely.
Munch is the final Gabbit remaining in Oddworld, where his species has been hunted to the brink of extinction. Now, the ruthless and despicable Vykkers Labs has set its sights on Munch, seeking wealth and power through his destruction. At the same time, seasoned Oddworld hero and renegade Abe discovers that he needs Munch's aid to rescue his kind from industrial devastation—and Munch needs Abe to survive. In a brand-new 3D world that blends familiar gameplay with fresh environments, the duo must journey through military installations, factories, and the wilds, working together to liberate the oppressed, dismantle corrupt law enforcement, and halt environmental destruction in order to restore harmony to Oddworld.
