Summary

Pirates of the Caribbean is a role-playing game where players assume the identity of a pirate who must develop their abilities through combat, trade, and quest completion. Players can purchase and enhance a ship, recruit a crew, and strive to dominate the waters of the Caribbean.

Storyline

Following a violent storm, Captain Nathaniel Hawk reaches the island of Oxbay. His first mate, Malcolm Hatcher, is retiring, so Hawk must recruit a new first mate and crew. As he departs Oxbay, a French fleet attacks the settlement and takes it over. Hawk manages to escape and alerts the English governor of Redmond Island, Robert Christopher Silehard, about the French assault on Oxbay. The governor assigns Hawk a series of missions to support the war effort against France: Nathaniel is to assess the situation in Oxbay; stop a supply ship from reaching the island; deploy English troops into the Oxbay jungle and rescue an English spy from French captivity. As he prepares for his next mission—reclaiming Oxbay—Nathaniel reunites with old friends, Danielle Greene and Ralph Fawn. However, Ralph is killed when soldiers come to arrest Danielle, and Nathaniel is captured and thrown into prison. While imprisoned, he meets Edgar Attwood, a former cannoneer who was dismissed for excessive rum drinking. The player can later recruit Attwood to their crew. Later, Governor Silehard arrives and informs Nathaniel of a serious error. He sends Nathaniel on another set of missions until he encounters an old inventor who helps him locate a treasure capable of defeating the ghost ship known as the Black Pearl. There are also numerous side quests. For example, in one such mission, Hawk is asked to assist a Dutch colonist in rescuing several kidnapped children.
