Befriend a Pokémon by Playing! was a Flash game once hosted on Pokémon.com as part of the Pokémon Global Link campaign. The objective is to shatter blocks using a bouncing ball, much like the classic game Breakout. Players control a paddle to prevent the ball from dropping off the screen. Each consecutive hit on a block adds 100 points to the score. Occasionally, when a block is struck, a colored orb drops. Catching these orbs with the paddle earns 500 points each. The game consists of four levels, and players begin with three lives, with the chance to gain additional lives and power-ups as they progress. After completing the game, collected orbs—depending on their type—can be used to claim a free Pokémon through Pokémon Dream World, as long as the player is logged into their Pokémon Trainer Club account. Available Pokémon include Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, Espeon, Umbreon, Leafeon, and Glaceon. The game was taken down after May 19, 2011, and its .swf file was permanently removed from the site.
