Pokémon Tretta is an arcade game created by Takara Tomy A.R.T.S. and Marvelous AQL, the same team behind the Pokémon Battrio arcade title. Officially revealed on April 18, 2012, Pokémon Tretta began its nationwide rollout in Japan in early July, gradually replacing most of the older Battrio cabinets. The arcade units became fully functional on July 14, 2012, with the launch of the first set. The game is also available in Taiwan in Traditional Chinese, and in the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Hong Kong in English. Similar to its predecessor, Pokémon Tretta centers around three-on-three Pokémon battles that require special tiles known as Tretta, each featuring a different Pokémon. However, unlike Battrio, Tretta introduces the ability to search for and capture Pokémon in various locations. Pokémon caught within the game are given to players for use in future battles or to expand their collection.
