A humorous adventure game that pokes fun at the overwhelming number of baseball and murder mystery titles on the Famicom. It was created and released exclusively in Japan by Capcom. Pro Yakyuu? Satsujin Jiken! ("Pro Baseball? Murder Case!") is a lighthearted send-up of the Famicom's flood of Portopia-style murder mystery adventures and baseball simulations, particularly the yearly Pro Yakyuu Family Stadium series. In the game, you play as a professional baseball player who's wrongly accused of murder and must clear their name while on the run. Capcom added several extra features, including mini-games and a shoot-'em-up segment whenever the main character is caught by the police. This title is also notable for launching on the same day in Japan—December 24th, 1988—as another Capcom release: Rockman 2. One of these games ended up receiving far more attention than the other.
Igawa, the protagonist, was once a top-tier baseball player, but now lives a quieter life as a sports news commentator after retiring from the game. One day, while relaxing at home and watching television, a breaking news alert interrupted the program. It reported that a man had been discovered dead in a hotel in Tokyo. Just then, the doorbell rang, and Hora, a former teammate from the baseball days, arrived at Igawa's doorstep. Looking visibly tired, Hora explained that he had been dealing with alopecia areata and had sought advice from another former teammate, Kakifu, about possible treatments. While Hora and Kakifu were having a conversation at a Tokyo hotel, a familiar sports journalist suddenly showed up and handed Hora a briefcase. When Hora questioned the reporter about it, the man quickly disappeared. Seeing a stranger running toward him, Hora became frightened and fled the scene, eventually showing up at Igawa's house for help. Recognizing the hotel as the same location where the body had been found, Igawa convinced Hora to open the briefcase. Inside, they discovered a large bundle of cash. At that moment, a group of police officers burst in, chasing after Hora. Igawa stood his ground, telling the officers that Hora was the one responsible and that he himself was innocent. In a state of panic, Hora ran into the house and escaped through the back. Igawa, without hesitation, gave chase. Now a key witness being pursued by the police, Igawa evaded capture and set out on a mission to clear his name.
