Resident Evil Outbreak File #2 is a survival-horror title launched exclusively for the PlayStation 2 and serves as a follow-up to Resident Evil Outbreak, which was initially planned as a much larger project before being split into multiple parts. The eight characters from the first game return with similar skills, and the action once again unfolds in the zombie-infested Raccoon City. This new installment introduces several fresh scenarios and features gameplay innovations for the Resident Evil series. Loading times have been shortened, and while the earlier Outbreak had online capabilities in the US, this title marks the first online-enabled Resident Evil game in Europe. The locations in this game range from the familiar (such as the Raccoon Police Department) to the unusual (like a mutated jungle at noon). It also offers a wealth of unlockable content, including concept art, notes, trivia, and character outfits. The game is compatible with save files from Resident Evil Outbreak, allowing players to carry over their unlocked items into this new adventure.
Raccoon City has fallen victim to the Umbrella Corporation's lethal T-Virus, a mutagenic agent that transforms its human hosts into ravenous zombies. The remaining survivors must fight to flee the city before the government enacts its ultimate plan to erase Raccoon City from existence.
