Set in the weeks following *Resistance: Fall of Man*, *Resistance: Retribution* continues the tale of ex-British Marine James Grayson. After enduring a devastating personal loss—killing his own brother inside a Chimeran conversion facility—Grayson embarks on a vengeful mission to dismantle every conversion center he can locate. Eventually, he discovers that his efforts have been in vain, as the Chimera in Western Europe have developed a new, more advanced method of transforming humans into their alien kind. The European resistance group, the Maquis, calls upon Grayson for assistance, and he joins forces with Cartwright and Parker for Operation Overstrike. The battle to reclaim the European continent has officially begun.
Set two months after the events of *Resistance: Fall of Man*, British Royal Marine Lieutenant James Grayson leads his team in a mission to infiltrate a Chimera conversion center. During the raid, Grayson is horrified to discover his long-lost brother, Johnny Grayson, already infected with the Chimera virus and partially transformed into a Menial. Bound by military protocol for handling infected personnel, Grayson is forced to make the agonizing choice to shoot and kill his own brother. The trauma of the moment triggers a nervous breakdown, leading Grayson to abandon his unit and embark on a one-man crusade against the Chimera. Over time, he manages to destroy around 26 conversion centers, but is ultimately captured and charged with desertion—a capital offense. Grayson is put on trial, where Major Stephen Cartwright, now his commanding officer, testifies against him. Found guilty, Grayson is sentenced to execution by firing squad.
