Summary

The ninth installment in KOEI's *Romance of the Three Kingdoms* series places players in the role of emerging leaders in ancient China, challenging them to unify the land under their command. Sticking to the core design of previous entries, the game lets players build and manage vast armies as they traverse the expansive landscape, employing both warfare and diplomacy to gain territory and allies. The deep strategy system is enhanced with a range of mission types, branching narratives, and a detailed reflection of the historical and cultural setting. This version introduces the ability to handle both political and military affairs simultaneously, letting players continue negotiations even as battles unfold. Although the restriction remains that playable characters must be of the Ruler class, the system for officer development has been overhauled to give players more control over their subordinates. *KOEI* fans who also own *Dynasty Warriors 4* and *Dynasty Tactics 2* can import their save data to unlock a unique, powerful officer character.
