Summary

Unleash psychic abilities against terrifying enemies in this hilarious 5-part epic adventure. In *The Devil’s Playhouse* series, an enigmatic force beckons those with the strength and strangeness to harness it—intergalactic tyrants, cosmic deities, subterranean creatures, and masters of the mystical. The first installment kicks off with a colossal threat as the ape-like invader Skunk'ape targets Max’s hidden talents. As he learns to control his powers of foresight, teleportation, shape-shifting, and telepathy—and uncovers their origins—Sam and Max must battle the villainous Skunk'ape and send him to The Penal Zone. The saga unfolds as a wild, ever-darkening parade of chaos, growing more bizarre and intense with every episode. * Episode 1: The Penal Zone * Episode 2: The Tomb of Sammun-Mak * Episode 3: They Stole Max's Brain! * Episode 4: Beyond the Alley of the Dolls * Episode 5: The City That Dares Not Sleep

Storyline

The game opens with a narrator in the style of *The Twilight Zone*, addressing the audience and introducing Sam & Max as they set out to uncover the "Toys of Power"—toys that appear innocent but allow Max to tap into psychic abilities like teleportation and seeing the future. Their first mission is to stop the alien General Skun-ka'pe, who has come to Earth to claim the Toys for himself and is threatening to destroy the city. The duo successfully defeats him and sends him back to the Penal Zone, an interdimensional prison he had previously escaped. In the course of this mission, the Freelance Police come across a cult of Mole Men who have been guarding a mysterious relic known as the Devil's Toybox, which has been hidden in the basement of Sam and Max's office for years. By watching some old, dusty film reels, they discover that their great-grandparents, Sameth and Maximus, were once selected by the enigmatic Mr. Papierwaite to retrieve the Toybox from the Tomb of Sammun-Mak, an ancient Egyptian ruler. But when they succeeded, Papierwaite tried to harness Maximus' psychic abilities and the Toybox to summon the Elder God Yog-Soggoth and end the world. Sameth and Maximus stopped him by tricking him into uttering the summoning words himself. Afterward, they entrusted the Mole Men of that time with guarding the Toybox in the basement beneath their office (the Mole Men were meant to help, but a protective spell accidentally killed them).
