Scenario 3, Bulzome Rising, centers on Julian, a mercenary who first appeared as a supporting character in both Scenario 1 and Scenario 2. For all practical purposes, he is the central protagonist of Shining Force III. At the start of the story, Julian is driven by a desire for vengeance against Galm, one of, if not the most, formidable members of the Vandals, an ancient and powerful race that lived over 1,000 years ago. Julian is convinced that Galm was responsible for his father’s death and is determined to see him pay. This storyline was first introduced in an earlier Shining title, Shining the Holy Ark, where Julian appears as a young boy pleading with the party to help find his missing father. Julian joins Synbios in the middle of his quest in Scenario 1, but after a confrontation with Galm, he is thrown off a waterfall at a suspension bridge and presumed dead by Synbios' forces. He resurfaces in Scenario 2, having washed up on the shore during a battle between Medion’s army and the Bulzome Sect. Given the sect’s connection to the Vandals, Julian agrees to fight alongside Medion. As it becomes evident that the sect is attempting to kill Gracia, a child destined to become the next Innovator (a divine-like figure in the Shining series), Julian takes on the role of his protector and guide in fulfilling his fate. Scenario 3 begins roughly 60% into Scenario 2’s narrative and primarily focuses on battles against the Bulzome Sect and their allies in the regions of Aspinia and Destonia. While Scenarios 1 and 2 occur concurrently, much of Scenario 3 unfolds afterward, with some overlapping events. Ultimately, Julian leads a coalition of forces from both Synbios and Medion into the final showdown against Bulzome, a powerful Vandal sealed away in another dimension and the true mastermind behind the conflict.
