Summary

King of Dragons includes 16 levels, although many are relatively brief. Similar to Capcom's Knights of the Round, the game incorporates a role-playing game-style progression system. Experience is earned by defeating enemies and collecting gold, and as the character levels up, their health increases, other stats like attack range improve, and they gain a short period of invulnerability. Throughout the game, players can also find weapon and armor upgrades specific to each character. The game uses a straightforward control scheme with one attack button and one jump button. Pressing both simultaneously triggers a magical attack that hits all enemies on screen, with its power depending on the character in use, but at the cost of energy. The fighter, cleric, and dwarf can also block specific attacks by pulling the joystick back just before impact, using their shield. One of the many Capcom titles to include the yashichi power-up, King of Dragons hides three of these items across the game, each granting the player an additional continue.
