In The Sims 2, your Sims become more realistic, interactive, and intricate than in any previous version. The Sims 2: Ultimate Collection features the original The Sims 2 game along with all its add-ons, discs, and expansion packs. This collection was not sold in stores; it was released alongside the conclusion of technical support for The Sims 2 on July 22, 2014. Players who owned a digital copy of any The Sims 2 title in their Origin library received the Ultimate Collection automatically.
You'll guide your Sims through their entire lives, from their earliest days to their twilight years. Help them navigate "Life's Big Moments" and boost their "Life Score" with every choice you make. And because each Sim has unique DNA, their looks and personality will be inherited by future generations. Life in The Sims 2 becomes more immersive thanks to a brand-new 3-D engine that adds a whole new layer of depth. The game begins at the neighborhood stage. You can build a community from scratch or choose from three themed pre-made neighborhoods. Once you've selected a home and a family of Sims to manage, you'll dive into their daily lives. Sims now have aspirations, desires, and fears. Their desires and fears are the small, everyday concerns that influence their behavior—like wanting to socialize or get married, or fearing rejection or death. Meeting their needs makes them more productive in completing your tasks, while triggering their fears can make them sluggish, irritable, and uncooperative. Aspirations are the long-term goals, such as raising a family, becoming rich, or gaining wisdom. Achieving these allows you to give your Sim special items that enhance their life, like a money tree that generates income or a "fountain of youth" water cooler. Managing all of this is made easier by the enhanced "Free Will" feature, which allows Sims to take care of their basic needs more independently. The game's AI has also been refined—Sims won't turn on the radio just as someone is about to sleep, although they still sometimes leave their dishes on the floor. A major addition to the series is the concept of a full lifespan. Sims now inherit traits from their parents, families expand, and Sims age naturally. This ties in with their aspirations—growing up is the first aspiration a baby Sim will have—and it adds a sense of urgency as your Sims have only a limited time to reach their goals. The pre-made households come with clever, over-the-top backstories that parody soap opera tropes—complete with drama, romance, ghosts, and family feuds.
