The console edition of Rainbow Six 3 includes mission locations and structures that mirror the PC version, though it introduces a completely new storyline. Rainbow is called into action following a string of terrorist strikes targeting U.S. assets in South America, seemingly carried out by Islamic extremists backed by Saudi Arabia. In reality, the true architect of these attacks is Venezuela's newly elected president, Juan Crespo. Crespo won office by promoting a tough anti-terrorism stance and capitalizing on the public fear generated by the very attacks he engineered. His strategy involves discrediting Saudi Arabia, then halting Venezuela's oil exports to the United States, triggering an oil shortage and causing prices to soar. Crespo would then sell oil to the U.S. through the black market at exorbitant rates.
When a terrorist scheme endangers the fragile peace between the United States and Saudi Arabia, Team Rainbow is the only solution. Carry out your missions with lethal force and tactical precision to defend the innocent and uphold global stability.
