The narrative is rooted in the post-apocalyptic sci-fi series *La Compagnie des Glaces* (*The Ice Company*) by Georges-Jean Arnaud and the comic *Le Transperceneige* (*The Snowpiercer*) by Jacques Lob. In the 21st century, humanity is devastated by the greenhouse effect. A desperate attempt to reverse the damage is launched—and it succeeds far beyond expectations. Centuries, perhaps even millennia later, Earth is completely shrouded in a dense, impenetrable layer of clouds. Packs of giant wolves prowl the icy wastelands, and the mammoth has reappeared from the remnants of the elephant species. Surviving humans live in sparse settlements, linked by a system of enormous armored trains. This system is controlled by the colossal Viking Union, which shows no mercy to those who challenge its authority. Yet a small group of radicals dares to dream of change, seizing control of one of the Union's trains, the *Transarctica*, and embarking on a journey in pursuit of the "sun."
