Triple Play 98 includes all 30 Major League Baseball stadiums but does not feature the full rosters of every team. The game was released before the expansion draft that brought in the Arizona Diamondbacks and Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Their logos are present in the game, and players can be added to their rosters using a list of available free agents. Six gameplay modes are offered: exhibition, season, playoffs, home run derby, all-star, and practice. Players can also trade existing players or create custom ones. A wide range of statistics is tracked throughout the season, and multiple camera angles are available during gameplay. Play-by-play and color commentary are provided by announcers Jim Hughson and Buck Martinez. To save a game, Triple Play 98 requires one to five memory card blocks.
