Twisted Metal: Black is a vehicular combat video game created by Incognito Entertainment, formerly known as Incog Inc., and published by Sony Computer Entertainment America for the PlayStation 2 console. It serves as the fifth entry in the Twisted Metal series and launched on June 18, 2001. A multiplayer-only online version, Twisted Metal: Black Online, was later made available as a free update.
Black is on a mission for an unknown individual to find and kill Calypso. The sender remains a mystery, and the reason behind Black's task is never fully explained. Based on the original *Twisted Metal* from 1995, *Twisted Metal: Black* features a much darker storyline and is labeled as an "alternate universe" compared to the rest of the *Twisted Metal* series. This is because the events are all taking place within Needles Kane's mind. But there's more to *Twisted Metal: Black* than that. Black, the driver of Manslaughter, first appeared in *Twisted Metal* (1995) in Mr. Ash's "lost" ending. In that ending, Mr. Ash is trying to reclaim his demon, "Black," leading many to believe that Mr. Ash is actually Satan. When Mr. Ash succeeds in getting Black back, Calypso becomes furious. This is because Black has been sent on a mission to kill a more sinister and evil version of Calypso in the "Black" universe.
