With ten distinct game modes—ranging from team-based to solo free-for-alls—players will find endless adrenaline-fueled challenges across intricately detailed indoor arenas and sprawling outdoor battlegrounds. As a futuristic techno-gladiator, players take control of their destiny, competing against up to 32 opponents online in fast-paced, high-stakes combat arenas. Assault Mode - Assault mode is back, reimagined for UT2004! This beloved mode pits teams against each other in a battle to defend and capture fortified bases, from high-speed trains speeding through a dry alien wasteland to a massive Skaarj mothership preparing to strike the human homeworld. Onslaught Mode - Onslaught mode elevates team-based combat to new heights! Competing teams must seize and hold key locations to attack and dismantle the enemy’s power core. Set in expansive outdoor environments, this mode showcases vehicular warfare like never before. Players can fly, drive, or ride into battle, with massive mobile war machines serving as powerful bases for launching devastating offensives. Vehicles - Gear up and take to the battlefield in a wide variety of land, air, and space vehicles that are essential to success in Assault and Onslaught. From nimble one-person fighters to massive five-man war machines, Unreal Tournament 2004 offers a wealth of options for those seeking a mechanized edge in combat. Maps - Over 95 maps will be available at launch, including more than 45 all-new designs that support both existing and new gameplay modes. Players can expect everything from vast open environments and deep space battle zones to tightly packed indoor arenas, all ready for the next wave of combatants. Weapons - The full arsenal of deadly weapons from Unreal Tournament 2003 returns, giving seasoned players the tools to dominate the competition. Three new weapons have also been added to the fray: the Mine Layer, which deploys spider-like mines that pursue and pester enemies; the Anti-Vehicle Rocket Launcher (AVRiL), a powerful weapon designed to target and destroy enemy vehicles; the Grenade Launcher, which fires bouncing explosives that stick to enemies and vehicles, detonating on command; and the return of the iconic Sniper Rifle from the original Unreal Tournament, now fully upgraded and more lethal than ever. New Characters - Unreal Tournament 2004 introduces 32 new characters across four new teams: the human Thunder Crash, led by tournament legend Malcolm; the Robotic Corrupt, commanded by the enhanced Xan Kriegor; the Iron Skull, a ruthless squad of Skaarj warriors; and the Hellions, a group of reckless human mercenaries and pirates who thrive on the chaos of battle. New Technology - Unreal Tournament 2004 not only delivers fresh content for die-hard fans, but also features a major technological upgrade over its predecessor, offering a faster, smoother, and more immersive experience than ever before.
Storyline
The game is set in a universe where humans once waged war against the Skaarj long ago, leaving their galactic empire in ruins. To help stabilize the colonies and soothe agitated settlers, the Liandri Corporation introduced a gladiatorial tournament for the miners. The event became wildly popular, evolving into a full-fledged sport with sponsored teams competing in specially constructed arenas. From the start, Xan Kriegor, a robot, dominated as the reigning champion of the Tournament, until Malcolm, then captain of the team Thunder Crash, bested him and later joined forces with the prominent team of the time—the Iron Guard, led by Brock. Last year, they were bested by the Juggernauts, who were commanded by the genetically enhanced powerhouse Gorge. The game begins as the Tournament reaches its 10th year. Malcolm has returned with his original team, Thunder Crash, determined to reclaim his title. Brock is back with the Iron Guard, chasing his own triumph. Gorge and the Juggernauts are there to defend their championship. Meanwhile, the Skaarj Empire has entered a team of their own in pursuit of honor and glory. And Xan Kriegor, the former champion, has undergone upgrades and is back to reclaim the title he believes is rightfully his.
