Summary
X-Men: Mojo World, a 1996 Game Gear title, introduces players to Wolverine and Rogue as the first playable X-Men, with Gambit, Cyclops, Havok, and Shard becoming available as the game progresses. It shares its engine with the earlier X-Men: Gamesmaster's Legacy and was also released on the Master System in Brazil by Tec Toy.
The game is set in a bleak future where Mojo hosts a brutal televised competition, forcing contestants into deadly combat. Mojo has captured several X-Men from history and seeks to reenact their greatest battles. Wolverine and Rogue must enter the game, save their captured teammates, and ultimately defeat Mojo to escape.
Players begin by selecting either Wolverine or Rogue. As each level is completed, more X-Men join the roster, starting with Gambit, then Cyclops and Havok, and finally Shard. If a character is defeated, the player must retry the level with the remaining X-Men. The game ends when all playable X-Men are eliminated.
Each character has a unique ability that can be used at any time. Wolverine wields his claws, Rogue can take to the skies, Gambit throws explosive playing cards, Cyclops fires optic beams, Havok shoots plasma, and Shard hurls energy blasts. Characters have separate energy and power meters that decrease when hit or when using their abilities. Throughout the game, players can collect items that restore these resources.
The core gameplay involves progressing through six levels, each ending in a boss fight against iconic comic book villains like Magneto, Fitzroy, a Sentinel, and more.
