Summary
Humanity has moved beyond Earth, and with the development of warp technology, is rapidly charting the cosmos one light year at a time. Facing a scarcity of resources, the Earth Federation launches a new initiative to modernize outdated and decommissioned ships. The Mephistopheles, a small, aging scout vessel, becomes the first to be refitted. Equipped with a new crew of six, it is tasked with surveying the Caracus galaxy. Just a few days into the mission, the crew of the Mephistopheles stumbles upon an unidentified object adrift in the void: an ancient metal container. Disregarding the Federation's warning to leave it for a scientific team, the captain decides to bring it aboard and open it.
