Godzilla Generations: Maximum Impact follows the Dreamcast launch title Godzilla Generations. Both games are inspired by the iconic Japanese movie series featuring Godzilla, the legendary giant dinosaur-like creature. The game is a rail shooter, similar to the popular Panzer Dragoon, where players follow a set path but can fire in any direction to defeat waves of incoming enemies. It includes a dodge system and a lock-on feature. The gameplay consists of two distinct level types. In one, Godzilla destroys military forces attempting to stop him as he wreaks havoc on a Japanese city. The other level type pits Godzilla against other colossal monsters from the film franchise in epic battles.
The opening starts with Godzilla swimming in the ocean before shifting to him attacking a city, with the MGR-IInd and military forces appearing. The scene then transitions to Space Godzilla and Destoroyah appearing above the city, followed by Godzilla continuing his destruction as the military and G-Force launch attacks against him. They manage to knock him down, but he quickly gets back up. Godzilla then destroys a building (a few G-Force soldiers can be seen running as it collapses). Next, Godzilla charges his atomic breath, and after a few seconds, the building explodes with soldiers scrambling and attacking. Godzilla fires his beam into the sky, and as the screen fades to black with a hit point indicator, the intro ends. There are no sound effects in the intro, only music.
