Summary

In the deepest voids of endless space, an ancient evil stirs. Under the command of Bacterian, the god of destruction, the Dark Forces are poised to unleash a devastating assault on the planet Gradius. With overwhelming might, they seek to shatter the cosmos and reduce it to ruin. Their relentless advance obliterates Gradius' defenses, and nearby worlds quickly succumb one after another. Now, Bacterian's shadow stretches toward the last bastion of hope—the very planet Gradius itself. To face this looming catastrophe, the United Gradius World Forces mobilize their remaining fighter squadrons. Half are deployed to form a defensive shield, while the other half launch an offensive strike. But they are outmatched. The Dark Forces overwhelm the fragile line of defense, leaving no survivors in their wake. In a desperate final act, the United Gradius World Forces deploy two experimental fighters long deemed too volatile for battle: the InterDimensional VIC VIPERs. The fighters soar into the abyss, heading straight into the maelstrom that will determine the future of the Universe.

Storyline

Beyond the farthest edges of the darkest corners of space lies a galaxy shrouded in layer upon layer of shadow. Bacterian, the enigmatic god of annihilation who arose from this uncharted void, has once more awakened from his abyssal slumber. To fulfill his sinister ambitions, Bacterian unleashes his Dark Force for a conclusive strike. The Dark Force swiftly blankets all of space with an energy field of unimaginable power, unleashing a wave of devastation and ruin. The dark incursion devours one world after another around Gradius, and now the very planet of Gradius teeters on the brink of annihilation. To counter this menace, the Gradius federal authorities command their full military to construct an immense defensive system and initiate a full-scale assault. Yet, facing an enemy as formidable as the Dark Force, even this last-ditch effort is on the verge of collapse. Now, once more, the super-dimensional ace Vic Viper takes to the skies. He soars into the endless void, carrying the fate of the cosmos on his wings...
