Medarot 2 launched in 1999 for the Nintendo Game Boy and serves as a direct follow-up to Medarot 1. It continues the early adventures of Ikki Tenryou and his friends in the town of Omikuji. Unlike the original, Medarot 2 supports full-color gameplay on the Game Boy Color. Similar to other RPGs in the series, the game was released in two distinct versions, with the main difference being the Medarot the player starts with: Kabuto (Rhinoceros beetle, Metabee) or Kuwagata (Stag beetle, Rokusho). In addition to the starting Medarots, certain Medarots and Medals are exclusive to each version. A Game Boy Advance remake titled Medarot 2 Core was released in 2002. While the remake was available in North America and Europe, the original Game Boy version of Medarot 2 has never received an English translation.
