Project I.G.I.: I'm Going In (known in Europe as simply Project I.G.I.) is a tactical first-person shooter developed by Innerloop Studios and published by Eidos Interactive on December 15, 2000. It was among the earliest computer games to showcase realistic weaponry and immersive tactical combat scenarios. Stop a vengeful ex-Russian Colonel from triggering a nuclear catastrophe across Europe in Project I.G.I.: I'm Going In. This first-person shooter prioritizes stealth and cunning over brute force. As Jones, players infiltrate the most secure military facilities in Eastern Europe, relying on skills in stealth, hacking, sabotage, and reconnaissance to thwart the rogue operative. The enemy's AI adapts to every move, employing military strategies to detect and pursue the player. To overcome the enemy's defenses—including surveillance systems, bunkers, tanks, and gunships—Jones is armed with advanced NATO spy equipment and combat weapons. When the situation becomes too dire, he can deploy a devastating napalm strike using his Map Computer. Upon its release, the game received mixed reactions due to several issues, including subpar AI programming, the absence of a mid-game save feature, and the lack of multiplayer support. Nonetheless, it was commended for its excellent sound design and visuals, partly due to its custom-built game engine, previously used in Innerloop's Joint Strike Fighter. The game was succeeded in 2003 by I.G.I.-2: Covert Strike.
The story is mainly conveyed through in-engine cutscenes shown at the start or finish of each mission, and they boast a striking visual style—dramatic camera angles and lighting effects occasionally reaching near-film quality, even if the characters' flat dialogue can become repetitive. The missions maintain a grounded tone: Although David Jones is a capable agent, he's just one person—not a lone super-soldier. As a result, he must rely on stealth, moving through shadows, avoiding security cameras, hacking systems to disable surveillance, and using binoculars to survey the surroundings.
