Satan has artificially expanded the sun in a cunning bid to achieve the ideal tan. Arle Nadja sets out on a mission to stop him in this fast-paced puzzle battle game. This marks the third entry in the Puyo Puyo series and follows up on Puyo Puyo Tsu. Building on the immense popularity of its predecessor, Compile opted for a more nostalgic style, giving the game a more classic feel compared to Tsu. The title Puyo Puyo SUN is a clever Japanese pun involving the word *san*, and also introduces a brand-new Puyo type. The inclusion of Sun Puyos, the tropical beach setting, and the fact that it's the third game in the series (with *san* meaning "three" in Japanese) all tie into the title's multiple meanings. The game was exclusive to Japan. After its arcade debut, Puyo Puyo Sun was adapted for the major home consoles of the time. The Saturn version arrived just three months after the arcade launch, while the other versions were released in late 1997 and over the course of 1998. The Saturn, PlayStation, and Windows 95 editions include fully voiced cutscenes, a feature absent in the original ST-V version.
Satan flips through a magazine and becomes obsessed with the idea that a sun-kissed tan will attract more admirers. Using his powers, he enlarges the sun and transforms the world into a sweltering tropical paradise. Arle and Carbuncle, overwhelmed by the intense heat, spot Satan’s castle as the source of the scorching wave. Schezo also makes his way to the castle, determined to restore the night. Meanwhile, Draco enjoys the heat and heads to the hill to soak up the sun in a bikini.
