Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition incorporates all the bonus content from the PlayStation 2 release and introduces several adjustments to work with the Wii Remote’s motion controls. The aiming system now uses a larger reticle that shifts from green to red when locking onto an enemy, replacing the original narrow laser sight. A new “quick knife” command lets players automatically target the nearest enemy or object, while motion-based quick-time events replace some standard button prompts. Graphically, the game is on par with the original GameCube version and offers an improvement over the PlayStation 2’s lower-resolution visuals. However, some graphical details—like the simplified herb models—seem to have been retained from the PS2 version. The Wii Edition also includes support for the classic controller, bringing back the traditional control scheme and the original laser sight. Other changes include a reduced difficulty level and slightly quicker animations for Leon’s movements.
The game's central hero is Leon S. Kennedy, one of the few who survived the Raccoon City disaster. After the U.S. Government discovered his heroic actions there, they recruited and trained him to become a special agent. Now working for a specialized security force, Leon is dispatched to Spain to carry out a critical mission: rescuing Ashley Graham, the President's daughter, who has been taken hostage by a secretive cult.
