This game is a special reissue of Resident Evil: Director's Cut featuring added support for the Dual Shock analogue stick. It also contains behind-the-scenes footage of the upcoming sequel, Resident Evil 2 (also referred to as Resident Evil 1.5), which reveals an entirely different take on the game compared to the final version that was released. In North America, Resident Evil: Director's Cut Dual Shock Ver. was made available as a downloadable title on the PlayStation Network shortly after its launch in November 2006, though it was promoted using the original Director's Cut cover art. Meanwhile, in Japan and Europe, the original Director's Cut version was the one offered through the PlayStation Network.
On July 24, 1998, a string of strange murders took place on the outskirts of the Midwestern town of Raccoon City, prompting the Raccoon City Police Department's S.T.A.R.S. unit to step in. When communication with Bravo Team is cut off, Alpha Team is dispatched to find them. Arriving at the location of Bravo Team's downed helicopter, Alpha Team is ambushed by a group of monstrous canines, resulting in the death of one of their own. As the team's pilot, Brad Vickers, panics and flies away alone, the remaining members—Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Albert Wesker, and Barry Burton—are left with no choice but to take shelter in a nearby deserted mansion. It quickly becomes apparent that this is no ordinary house, but a nightmarish place teeming with the undead and other terrifying creatures lurking in the shadows, eager to feast.
