Summary
A playdate game featuring 8 retro-inspired mini-games, playable across 3 distinct game modes (a port of my SDL2 version)
The mini-games can be played in 3 different modes:
In Retro Carousel mode, you'll play all 8 games one after another, each for 2 minutes. You won't lose the game by losing lives, but your score will be reduced when you die. The goal is to achieve the highest total score across all games.
In Lives mode, you play a single game with a set number of lives. Each death costs you one life, and the game ends when you run out. The objective is to earn the highest possible score without dying.
In Time Attack mode, you play a single game for 5 minutes. You can't lose by dying, but your score will decrease when you take damage. The goal is to maximize your score within the 5-minute time limit.
The game includes 8 retro-inspired mini-games:
**Invaders** – Inspired by *Space Invaders* (Arcade). Rows of enemies are advancing toward your mining asteroids. Your goal is to shoot them down before they reach you. Destroying enemies earns points, and clearing all enemies gives bonus points. Use the dpad to move and press (A) to shoot. If enemies reach your asteroids or you're hit, you lose a life.
**Brick Breaker** – Inspired by *Breakout* (Arcade). You must destroy rows of blocks by bouncing a ball off a paddle at the bottom of the screen. Use the dpad to control the paddle, and hold (A) to speed it up. Let the ball bounce off your paddle to keep it in play. Breaking blocks earns points. If you miss the ball, you lose a life.
**Toady** – Inspired by *Frogger* (Arcade). Control your pet with the dpad and keep moving upward. Each new level reached gives you points. Avoid traffic, don’t fall in water, and stay within the playfield to avoid losing a life. Collect fruits for bonus points.
**Snakey** – Inspired by *Snake* (Nokia 3310). Control the snake's head (red block) with the dpad. The snake moves in four directions and eats food (green blocks). Each food item increases the snake's length and your score. Touching your own body or going off the screen causes you to lose a life.
**Bubble Buster** – Inspired by *Pang* (Arcade). You control a character who must pop bubbles. Use the dpad to move and press (A) to shoot. Hitting a bubble splits it into smaller ones and gives you points. If a bubble hits you, you lose a life and become temporarily invincible, but you can't shoot during that time. Clearing all bubbles gives bonus points.
**Block Stacker** – A *Tetris*-style game. Use the dpad to control and place blocks. Stack them to complete full rows, which then disappear. The game speeds up over time. If you can't place a block at the top, you lose a life. Press (A) to rotate blocks.
**Color Invasion** – Inspired by *Ram-It* (Atari 2600). Control a cannon with the dpad and use (A) to shoot. Your goal is to eliminate colored bars by shooting them off the screen. The closer a bar is to the cannon when cleared, the more points you earn. Clearing all bars gives bonus points. If a bar reaches the cannon, you lose a life.
**Faster Dave** – Inspired by *Fast Eddie* (Atari 2600). Control Dave with the dpad. Avoid or jump over enemies using (A) while collecting magic balls. Collecting 9 balls unlocks the end-level key. You're safe on ladders. Points are earned for collecting balls and the key. Touching an enemy causes you to lose a life. The level layout changes every 5 levels.
