Samba de Amigo: Ver. 2000 is an enhanced edition featuring 14 brand-new tracks and six additional downloadable songs for the home version. Unlike the original game, which limited players to three song choices per stage, this version offers more flexibility by allowing players to select multiple songs. The "Love Love/Couples" Mode, previously exclusive to the home version of Samba de Amigo, is now available in the arcade version of Ver. 2000. A new character named Amiga joins the lineup. She is Amigo's sister and uses a tambourine as her instrument. In the home edition, a volleyball mini-game replaces the original set of mini-games. A new Survival mode has also been added, challenging players to complete as many songs in a row as possible. Additionally, Challenge mode introduces fresh objectives and five brand-new secret stages that are notably tough. The biggest new feature in Ver. 2000 is the "Hustle Mode." In this mode, players still follow the on-screen prompts to shake their maracas, but these actions occur less frequently. Instead, Pose appears more often, directing players to hold static poses and replicate specific maraca movement patterns. These patterns include shaking one or both maracas between two of six positions, performing a full 360° rotation from one position, and looping back around. Every song in the game, including those from the original version, includes both Original and Hustle Mode variations. Samba de Amigo Ver. 2000 was set to launch in North America under the title Samba de Amigo Ver. 2001, but it was ultimately canceled when Sega ended support for its console.
Samba de Amigo is played using a pair of maracas. As music plays, the player follows on-screen prompts to shake the maracas at high, middle, or low positions in time with the beat, or to mimic specific poses by holding the maracas in designated ways. The player is represented by Amigo, a lively Brazilian monkey. When the player performs well, the environment—often a concert or dance—becomes more vibrant and draws in more characters; if the player struggles, the crowd thins until only Amigo remains, looking dejected. In the main game mode, each player sees six circular indicators on the screen: two red for "shake high," two yellow for "shake middle," and two green for "shake low." Blue notes appear in the center and move toward these indicators. When a blue note reaches an indicator, the player must shake a maraca at the corresponding height. For instance, if a blue note hits the top-left indicator, the player must shake the maraca above their left shoulder. Shaking both maracas at the same spot earns an "Amigo" bonus. At times, a series of blue notes will stream into one spot with the word "Shake" displayed, signaling the player to shake the maraca quickly at that position. Occasionally, a stick-figure character labeled "Pose" appears, holding its maracas in a specific stance; the player has a short window to replicate the pose to earn points.
