Theresia is a horror and visual novel crossover experience divided into two storylines: Dear Emile and Dear Martel. Dear Emile – A dark and twisted tale of love between a mother and daughter. Rescued from the brink of death by a blood-soaked woman, Leanne was raised in a world of suffering, conflict, and despair. Now a young woman, she awakens in a deadly labyrinth with no recollection of her past. Can she piece together the truth of her captivity and survive, or will Leanne be forever trapped in the corridors of her prison, tormented by the secrets of Theresia? Dear Martel – When a deadly fever swept through his orphanage, a gifted doctor devised a cure to protect the children under his care. Though the fever was vanquished, from its remains emerged something far more sinister—something far more monstrous. Can he redeem himself for his terrible mistake, or will his creation bring about the end of humanity?
Leanne, a teenage girl, awakens in a cramped, poorly lit room with no recollection of who she is or how she got there. The only hint left behind is the name Theresia, scrawled on a scrap of paper. The early sections of the game guide the player through basic controls, establish the eerie mood, and introduce the survival elements. The structure is more than just a sub-basement—it's part of a larger complex filled with concealed dangers. Most doors are either sealed, blocked by obstacles, or guarded by deadly environmental threats. As Leanne explores, she uncovers that she's trapped in an underground detention center, spanning multiple levels beneath the surface, complete with water systems, storage chambers, interrogation rooms, and mysterious underground vaults. As the player progresses to higher levels, more of the world and Leanne's past are uncovered: the nation is on the brink of defeat in a war, and the prison is part of a military base that houses a research lab operated by a woman named Maylee, a figure from Leanne's fragmented memories. She also recalls glimpses of a young man named Sacha and a silver-haired woman covered in blood.
