Unlike earlier mobile titles, Tomb Raider: Legend was built in 3D for top-tier devices. The game is a side-scrolling platformer featuring 3D polygonal visuals. Much of the action centers on moving left and right, leaping between platforms, and firing at enemies blocking Lara’s path. Players must navigate hazards like electrified wires and laser systems by either jumping over or rolling beneath them. Occasionally, Lara must swing from poles or deploy her grappling hook to access distant areas. The grappling hook can also be used to swing into foes and take them out. Combat is straightforward, limited to Lara’s standard pistol. Players can dodge bullets by crouching, though enemies are equally capable of doing the same.
The game is set in three locations from the original title: Tokyo, Ghana, and Cornwall. Lara's mission is to recover Excalibur, the legendary sword of King Arthur, which has been broken into three fragments. The first piece is thought to be in the hands of a Japanese artifact collector named Takamoto, prompting Lara to travel to Tokyo to retrieve it. The challenge is that Takamoto is a Yakuza leader who probably won't part with it without a fight.
