Tricolore Crise (pronounced like the English word "crisis") is a Japan-exclusive Dreamcast RPG created by HuneX, a studio known for its work on visual novels and the Blue Breaker series. Featuring a battle system inspired by ATB mechanics and a variety of mostly optional story events loosely tied to a calendar, this open-ended fantasy adventure, reminiscent of the early Atelier titles, challenges players to guide a newly assembled team of three young women through a rigorous examination process. This trial determines if they are fit to become masters of one of the many magical towers that safeguard human civilization from the Iblis, a fierce, enigmatic, and dangerous race of magical beasts. At any time, the player can control only one of the three main characters, though they can freely switch between them. Some events are exclusive to specific characters. Additionally, each of the three protagonists can be accompanied by up to two Mitsukai, or "Angels." These guardian spirits can be customized and developed by the player, adding a monster-raising simulation aspect to the game.
Set in the grand royal city of Faillant, Tricolore Crise follows the journey of three spirited young heroines—Janis, Lanan, and Anemea. Though they come from different walks of life and are driven by individual ambitions, all three are drawn to the capital for the same reason: to begin the rigorous trials that determine their eligibility to become masters of one of the magical towers scattered across the realm. These towers stand as the last line of defense against the Iblis, a fearsome race of magical beasts that threaten humanity. The challenge, however, is that the examination can only be taken by teams of three. With countless other hopefuls vying for the same opportunity, Janis, Lanan, and Anemea are forced to form an uneasy alliance. Over time, this reluctant partnership deepens into mutual trust and, eventually, genuine friendship. But as they face growing time constraints and mounting obstacles, they must also confront a dark force that is spreading across the land with alarming speed.
