Vasteel 2 is the follow-up to the acclaimed mecha war strategy game Vasteel. This sequel places a stronger emphasis on storytelling, with a more distinct anime and manga visual style. Animated cutscenes are featured between missions to help progress the narrative. Even during large-scale strategic battles, characters frequently exchange dialogue, and scripted events can take place. The gameplay has also evolved. Like the original, Vasteel 2 is a hex-based, turn-based strategy game featuring robotic combat; however, the fast-paced action sequences have been removed, and battles now play out automatically, similar to many titles in the genre. Elements such as robot production and financial management have been simplified or taken out entirely. That said, players still have the option to select different weapon types before engaging in combat. For instance, robots can perform melee strikes, bipedal tanks can switch between various laser weapons, and more.
The protagonist is a young boy named Voice Knuckles, who lives a quiet life alongside his mother and his girlfriend, Diggy. However, this tranquility is shattered when the ruthless Emperor Agares invades his planet, obliterating Voice's home and tragically taking his mother's life. Fueled by vengeance, the boy vows to seek justice. With the support of Diggy and his companions, he gathers a resistance force composed of warriors piloting massive mechs, all united in their mission to stop Agares no matter the cost.
