Sinistron, known as Violent Soldier in Japan, is a side-scrolling space shooter that launched on the TurboGrafx-16 in 1991. One of the game's standout features is the player ship's adjustable armored jaws. When fully opened, the jaws provide invincibility and widen the shot spread, but they also leave the ship's cockpit exposed. A first-tier weapon upgrade allows the jaws to be set halfway open (for a 3-way spread) or fully closed (for increased firepower), while a second upgrade adds a fully open option, giving players a 5-way spread. The game includes five types of power-ups. The Vulcan flame cannon, crystal-pulse laser, and CHAOS (homing) missiles are all weapon enhancements. Additional upgrades include speed boosts and plasma droids—indestructible pods that accompany the ship. These droids can absorb enemy fire and even damage foes they touch. The ship's charge-up special attack unleashes a circular shockwave that damages all enemies within a wide radius. Sinistron features six stages that rapidly escalate in difficulty. The final two take place inside the massive Sinistron creature. The stages are as follows: Mechanical Stage Gas Tunnel Stage Biological Stage Deep Space Stage Organs Stage Cerebral Cortex Stage
