Evolution was an enhanced edition of Virtua Fighter 4. The game featured two brand-new fighters and also revised every existing character. The newcomers were the judo-based assassin Goh Hinogami and the Muay Thai specialist Brad Burns. When Brad Burns was added, Vanessa Lewis's alternate Muay Thai style from Virtua Fighter 4 was taken out and swapped with a Vale Tudo "Offensive" style, turning her into a pure Vale Tudo brawler. Every stage was also modified. For instance, Lei-Feng’s stage, which was set at sunset in Virtua Fighter 4, was changed to take place in the morning in Evolution.
